The Nisga’a Land Title Office needs to be able to verify the identity of the parties to the transaction.
At least two of the following are required for each mortgagor, and for each mortgagee if the mortgagee is not a corporation:
- BC Driver’s Licence or BCID
- Other Driver’s Licence
- Birth Certificate
- Nisga’a Citizenship Card
- Certificate of Indian Status Card
- Passport
Requirements
In order to mortgage a fee simple title it is necessary to complete a Form B which is available from the Nisga’a Land Title Office and this website. The Land Title Office staff can assist you to ensure that the form is filled out correctly, although they are not permitted to fill out the form for you.
It is also necessary for the mortgagor (or each mortgagor, if there is more than one) to have his or her signature on the Form B witnessed by a lawyer or notary public. There is generally a fee for this service by the witness.
The registration fee must be paid in full before the application can be processed. Please see the Fees page for current fees.
